So, you’ve had your home inspection—what’s next? Whether you’re buying a home, selling, or just learning more about your property, the inspection is a critical step in understanding what you’re working with. Here’s what to expect after your inspection and how to move forward with confidence.

1. The Walkthrough: Understanding Your Home

At Just Call Joe Inspections, we do more than just hand you a report—we walk you through it. After the inspection, we take the time to go over the findings with you in person, pointing out key areas of concern, explaining how different systems work, and answering any questions you have.

If you’re unable to attend the walkthrough, we’ll review everything with you over the phone once you have the report in hand. We want to ensure you fully understand what’s in your report and feel confident in your next steps.

2. Review the Inspection Report

Your report is a comprehensive breakdown of your home’s condition, including photos and detailed explanations. While some items may be minor maintenance concerns, others could be more significant issues that require immediate attention. Take your time to go through the report, and don’t hesitate to ask us if you need clarification.

3. Deciding What You’re Willing to Take On

A home inspection helps you assess whether the home is the right fit—not just in terms of space and style, but also in terms of the repairs and maintenance it may require. Now is the time to ask yourself:

  • Am I willing to deal with these repairs at the price I’m offering?

  • Would I rather negotiate a lower price based on the findings?

  • Are the repairs too extensive for me to move forward with the purchase?

Most home inspections provide peace of mind, reassuring buyers that there are no major surprises. However, sometimes the inspection uncovers unexpected issues—foundation problems, outdated electrical, or a failing roof—that weren’t apparent in the initial walkthrough. In these cases, some buyers negotiate with the seller, while others decide to walk away altogether if the repairs are beyond what they’re comfortable handling.

4. Prioritizing Repairs & Maintenance

Not everything in the report will require immediate attention, but understanding which repairs are urgent versus which can wait is key. Some issues may be safety concerns that should be addressed right away, while others can be part of your long-term maintenance plan. If you need help figuring out what to prioritize, we’re always here to offer guidance.

5. Planning for Ongoing Home Maintenance

A home inspection isn’t just about identifying problems—it’s also a great resource for future upkeep. That’s why we provide all our clients with the JCJ Yearly Home Maintenance Guide, a helpful tool filled with checklists and tips to keep your home in great shape. Taking care of small maintenance tasks now can prevent major (and costly) repairs down the road.

6. We’re Always Here for Questions

At Just Call Joe Inspections, our support doesn’t end when the inspection is over. Whether you have questions about repairs, need maintenance advice months later, or just want a second opinion on something in your report, we’re always here to help—for as long as you own your home.

7. Move Forward with Confidence

The home inspection gives you the full picture of the property, allowing you to make an informed decision. Whether you decide to proceed, renegotiate, or walk away, you now have the knowledge you need to do what’s best for you.

If you have any questions—now or in the future—don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to help!
