When hiring a contractor there are a lot of things to think about. I’m sure we have all heard the horror stories of a contractor only doing half the work and then leaving the homeowner with the mess. Here is a list of things to consider when hiring a contractor.

  • Interview multiple contractors or get multiple estimates, and remember, the cheapest might not always be the best option. Hiring someone with good references and a good reputation may end up saving you money and time in the long run.

  • Ensure you get everything in writing. Estimates, price increases, timelines, etc.

  • Ensure the company has a physical address in the local area (this decreases the flight risk)

  • Questions to ask: Are you licensed to work? Do you have liability insurance? Can you give me references from previous clients? Will you provide a written estimate and a maximum for the job? Will you provide me with a contract? How do you handle estimate increases?
